What is the MEXT scholarship?

The MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship is Japan's flagship government award — it covers full tuition, a monthly stipend and return airfares for undergraduate through PhD study, applied for via Japanese embassies or universities.

Do Japanese universities teach in English?

Yes — many top universities offer English-taught degree programmes, and English-taught tracks often have their own scholarship pools for international students.

Can I get a scholarship without speaking Japanese?

Absolutely — several scholarships, including MEXT and JASSO honours awards, don't require Japanese proficiency, though learning the basics helps with daily life.
